Abington Select Board Votes to Extend Bar Hours One Hour Through July 31

ABINGTON — June 11, 2026 — Abington Select Board extends bar hours one hour under new state World Cup pilot. The board voted unanimously Thursday to opt into the Act Authorizing Municipalities to Opt In to a Temporary Pilot to Expand the Hours of Liquor Licenses, signed by Governor Maura Healey on June 8, 2026. The measure allows any on-premises pouring establishment in Abington to extend its closing hour by one hour through July 31, 2026, by submitting a written letter to the town manager — no individual board vote required. Entertainment licenses for television were included in the extension; package stores were explicitly excluded. The police chief, who expressed no objections, asked for board backing to mandate a detail at any establishment that runs into compliance trouble during the extended hours, saying of current licensees, "Our businesses have done very, very well since I've been here."
