Board of Health · Meeting of March 5, 2026
Duxbury Board of Health approved the design for a roughly $2 million Mayflower Cemetery expansion ahead of next week's Town Meeting. Cemetery trustee Bob Hayes said fewer than 400 burial lots remain available and space could run out by the end of 2027; the project, adding about 3,800 burial lots, 464 cremation lots and a 300-niche columbarium, would be funded entirely through trustee and lot-sale funds, not taxes. The board also unanimously granted septic variances for projects at 52 Bay Pond Road and 676 Franklin Street.
A Duxbury Safe Water Committee representative warned that a Lakeshore Drive well has exceeded state contaminant limits for two years and urged notifying nearby households, saying "it's one of the highest" currently operating; members agreed to follow up with the water superintendent. A separate Town Meeting article seeks $1.6 million for Tremont and Depot Street well upgrades. The board also heard a hospital expansion update from Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth's chief medical officer.
