BROCKTON — June 15, 2026 — Brockton City Council approves $564.98 million FY2027 general fund budget after four amendments cut nearly $468,500 from the mayor's proposal. At a special session Monday evening, the nine-member council unanimously adopted all seven budget orders after Councilor Farwell led cuts to Brockton Community Access (down $225,000 to $450,000, citing roughly $800,000 in the organization's cash reserves) and the Planning and Economic Development Department (down $110,125, over an unfilled, non-ordained position), and Councilor Nicastro moved reductions to library personal services ($98,348 for four long-vacant part-time posts) and Brockton Public Schools net school spending ($35,000, which she described as equal to overpayments to School Committee members). City budget officer Dr. Clarkson warned the council that the Water Enterprise Fund budget of $22,573,876 may fall short without new inter-municipal water sale agreements or a rate increase, and confirmed the Refuse Enterprise Fund faces an estimated FY2026 deficit of $1 million to $1.5 million driven by the Republic Services contract — with a remediation plan to come after the fiscal year closes June 30.
