BROCKTON — The Brockton School Committee's Security, Safety and Transportation Subcommittee reviewed new private-vendor busing requirements ahead of an October 26 bid. Director of Transportation Kamal Peterson said the district transports about 7,600 students, including 1,700 in special education, and expects new 7D passenger vans to save "at least around $1,750 minimum a day" by cutting private vendor use. Assistant Director Andre Chalin said seven of the district's 128 vehicles are currently out of service, including vans with transmission problems quoted at $6,600 to $6,700 to repair.
Member Sandra Centeio pressed staff on private vendor safety inspections and asked for vehicle mileage data after parent complaints. Staff said monthly private-vendor spot inspections begin next month. The subcommittee voted 5-0 to move a safety and security update to the full committee's 7 p.m. meeting, then adjourned on a 4-0 roll call.
