Zoning Board · Meeting of October 5, 2026

Halifax zoning board rejects 150-foot cell tower, unanimously citing fall-zone bylaw. Chair Kozhaya Nessralla moved to deny the 285 Holmes Street application after the applicant sought variances as large as 67.9 feet from the town's 150-foot fall-zone setback, calling it "way too much." Attorney Alexandra Castaldo of Phillips and Angley argued the real fall zone was 75 feet and that state law now uses a "practical difficulty" standard, but the board voted it down anyway. Separately, the board approved variances for two residential garages, at 104 Elm Street and 368 South Street, and continued the 244 Thompson Street Chapter 40B housing application to November 9, after engineers added 10 parking spaces, bringing the total to 34, but still lack fire department sign-off and a completed traffic study.
