Hingham Little League summer travel teams take the field as Youth Basketball opens summer league registration.

HINGHAM -- With no high school games on the schedule this week, the local sports spotlight falls on youth baseball and basketball programs heading deeper into their summer calendars.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- Hingham Little League travel squads have games listed across the South Shore this week, with matchups involving the 9 Red, 10 Red, 10 White, 11 White, and 12 White baseball teams as well as the HLL Softball 12 Red Team. Scheduled opponents include Dorchester, Braintree, Hanover, Abington, and the SSSL Bridgewater squad, with games at Ventura Park, Tarallo Field, Hersey Field, McConnell Park, Dursin Baseball Field, and in Bridgewater. The league's All Star Family Fun Day, held June 13 at Carlson Field, was the signature recent event on the HLL calendar, featuring AA, AAA, and Majors All Star games, a Wiffle Ball Classic, skills competitions, a Home Run Derby, a Scholarschip Recipient Ceremony, a Williamsport Team Announcement, and a 12-Year-Old Clap Out.

Hingham Youth Basketball announced that Summer League registration opened May 2 and closed May 9, at a fee of $200 per registrant. The summer program operates through the Barker League structure, which fields grade-based divisions from first through eighth grade. The Recreation Department website also notes that the Open Rec Basketball Gym is closed to the public for the summer.

TOWN -- The Hingham Recreation Department's Striders Fitness Room remains open its regular hours — Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and weekends 8:30 a.m. to noon. The department is also promoting registration for its Fourth of July Road Race; sponsor information is available at hinghamrec.com.
