Marshfield Select Board Deadlocks on Town Administrator, Hire Delayed

MARSHFIELD — June 12, 2026 — Marshfield Select Board deadlocks 1-1 on town administrator hire, sending decision to a yet-unnamed third member. The two-member board spent nearly an hour at its June 12 meeting debating four candidates interviewed earlier in the week — Dan Riviello, Ted Langell, Frank Caruso, and a fourth candidate referred to in the audio as Mr. Creedler — without reaching agreement. Chair Rick Smith said he could not support Creedler given what he described as two prior terminations with financial payouts, and favored Langell for his fiscal turnaround record and decade of collective bargaining experience: "What he was able to do without an override was pretty amazing." Member Derrick Kelly, in his final term, held firm for Creedler, citing 28 years of municipal experience and an offer to accept a one-year no-fault termination clause, and refused to consider Langell or Caruso because both submitted applications after the board's March 6 deadline. Both members agreed Riviello was too inexperienced for the town's current challenges. The town has now been without a permanent full-time administrator for more than a year.
