Norwell boil water order continues after E. coli detected in sample

NORWELL — A boil water order issued Wednesday for Norwell remains in effect, with the town posting an urgent update overnight after E. coli was detected in a water sample, according to notices posted on the town website.

TOWN HALL

The Town of Norwell issued a "URGENT | BOTTLED WATER UPDATE 2" notice on July 9, following a boil water order posted July 8 along with accompanying instructions for residents, per the town's News Flash feed. The order came after testing found E. coli in a town water sample, a development also reported by WCVB, "Boil water advisory issued in Norwell after E. coli found in water sample" (per a Google Alert distribution citing WCVB). Residents are directed to consult the town's Boil Water Order Instructions posted alongside the advisory for guidance on safe water use until the order is lifted.

The boil water order arrives as the town remains under Tier 4 Water Restrictions, first announced June 17, underscoring ongoing strain on the water supply this summer. The Advisory Board also continues to seek volunteers, with vacancies open for applications through July 31.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Norwell Public Library announced a new Device Lending Program, adding four Dell Pro 14 laptops for in-library use and seven Dell Latitude touch-screen laptops available for take-home checkout; residents can call the library or visit the Main Desk for details. The library was also awarded a technology grant worth more than $35,000 through a state program, though officials noted that due to budget cuts the library will no longer offer seasonal Sunday hours. The library's July newsletter is now available with further details on programs and budget impacts.
