Norwell Enacts Tier 4 Water Restrictions; Library Debuts $35,000 Device Lending Program
Residents are under Tier 4 water restrictions as dry conditions persist, while the Norwell Public Library rolls out a new device lending program backed by a state technology grant worth more than $35,000.
TOWN HALL
Norwell is currently operating under Tier 4 water restrictions, the most stringent level in the state's drought-response framework, according to a June 17 notice posted by the town. Residents should review the town's Water Restriction Program guidelines at townofnorwell.net for specifics on what outdoor and non-essential water use is prohibited at this level.
Separately, the town is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the Advisory Board. The deadline to apply is July 31, 2026. Interested residents can find application information on the town website.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Norwell Public Library has launched a new Device Lending Program, giving patrons access to four Dell Pro 14 laptops for in-library use and seven Dell Latitude touchscreen laptops available for take-home checkout. The program was made possible in part by a state technology grant awarded to the library valued at more than $35,000. Residents interested in borrowing a device can call the library or visit the main desk at 64 South Street.
Budget cuts have also led the library to eliminate its seasonal Sunday hours. The library's current schedule runs Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More detail on the fiscal year 2026 budget impact is available on the library's website at norwellpubliclibrary.org.
