Norwell Issues Wildfire Smoke Alert, Warns of Permit Scam

NORWELL -- Town Hall issued a wildfire smoke air-quality alert to residents this week, one of several public notices that also included a warning about a scam targeting town permit applicants and a follow-up message from the town's water superintendent.

Norwell's water system remained a point of town communication this week. The town lifted its boil-water order on July 11, days after imposing Tier 4 water restrictions in mid-June, and Water Superintendent Jason Federico posted a follow-up message to residents on July 13. Two days later, on July 15, Town Hall issued a wildfire smoke alert advising residents of air-quality conditions.

Separately, the town posted a News Flash on July 13 warning residents about a scam targeting people applying for town permits, urging anyone contacted about a permit to verify the request directly with Town Hall.

The Norwell Public Library rolled out a new Device Lending Program, adding four Dell Pro 14 laptops for in-library use and seven Dell Latitude touch-screen laptops available for take-home checkout; residents can ask at the Main Desk for details. The library also announced it was awarded a state technology grant worth more than $35,000.

The additions come as the library confirmed it will no longer offer seasonal Sunday hours, a reduction tied to its fiscal 2026 budget. Details on the budget and its expected impacts are posted on the library's website, along with its July newsletter.
