Scituate Council on Aging launches Snow Angel program after February storms

SCITUATE — March 12, 2026 — Scituate Council on Aging launches a neighborhood Snow Angel snow removal program and expands a regional memory cafe to five South Shore communities. Outreach Coordinator Janine told the board at the March 12 meeting that the volunteer program, modeled on Norwell's Snow Angel initiative, pairs nearby youth volunteers with elderly residents so neither party must travel on unsafe roads, with one match already made. Assistant Director Kelly Walsh reported that the Together in Time Memory Cafe drew 25 to 30 attendees at each of its first two monthly sessions, with participants traveling from Hingham, Norwell, Cohasset, and Marshfield. A new transportation scheduling module through My Senior Center, including an iPad for van drivers, is coming online at a cost of $2,500 — covered by the center's gift budget. South Shore Elder Services representative Kenzie confirmed that farmer's market coupons for Meals on Wheels recipients will be available again this summer, and that the suggested per-meal donation will rise from $2 to $2.50, collected through an anonymous billing envelope that ensures no recipient is identified as receiving assistance.
