Scituate School Committee Backs Collaborative Reserve Fund, Quebec Trip

SCITUATE — January 5, 2026 — Scituate School Committee approves South Shore Educational Collaborative capital reserve fund and Quebec City field trip. The committee voted unanimously Monday to support creation of a capital reserve account at the South Shore Educational Collaborative, which serves roughly 296 students out of a Hingham facility with about eight years left on its lease; the fund would be capped at $4 million and draw only from tuition surpluses, requiring no new member-district assessments. Executive Director Michael Loesch said the collaborative hopes to deposit between $200,000 and $400,000 in strong years, noting that DESE requires approval from nine of its 12 member districts to establish the account. The committee also unanimously approved an overnight French-language student trip to Quebec City from May 14 through 16 at $750 per person through Jump Street Tours. Interim Superintendent Dr. Rapp reported the new elementary school's foundation is nearly complete and the structural steel topping-off ceremony is targeted for early March, with the project described as on time and under budget. Department Chair Tammy Rondell presented a first reading of the 2026-2027 Program of Studies, highlighting the district's first-ever AP business course and expanded Quincy College dual-enrollment options across science, math, and humanities.
