Whitman Assessors Approve $2,094 in Excise Abatements, Flag Elderly Exemption

WHITMAN — April 7, 2026 — Whitman's Board of Assessors approved just over $2,094 in motor vehicle excise abatements and $1,313 in property tax exemptions at its April 7 meeting, then moved to executive session to resolve a disputed elderly exemption. The board, including members Heidi Hosmer and Brittany Cavallo, passed 2025 excise abatements totaling $320.04 and 2026 abatements totaling $1,774.01 by unanimous voice votes. Two Clause 22 veterans exemptions worth $404 each and a Clause 37 blind exemption of $505 were also approved without dissent. A Clause 41C elderly exemption application was pulled from the public agenda after a board member noted the applicant was "over slightly" on a qualifying threshold, with the board deferring the decision to closed session.
