Whitman Board of Assessors Approves $149,413 Motor Vehicle Commitment

WHITMAN — May 19, 2026 — Whitman Board of Assessors approved nearly $4,876 in motor vehicle excise abatements and a $149,413.64 motor vehicle commitment in a seven-minute meeting Tuesday. The board voted unanimously to approve two fiscal year 2025 excise abatements totaling $645.34 and two fiscal year 2026 abatements totaling $4,230.61, the latter attributed partly to a vehicle accident. Members also approved commitment number three for $149,413.64, the formal authorization required before motor vehicle excise bills can be printed and mailed to residents; because of uncertainty over which date town staff would accept, two versions of the document were signed. Approval of the May 5 meeting minutes was tabled after clerk Christine was absent, as board procedure requires her signature.
