Whitman Recreation Commission Opens Summer Registration, Plans Spring Egg Hunt
WHITMAN -- February 12, 2026, Whitman Recreation Commission welcomes new member and opens summer program registration ahead of town meeting budget vote. The commission introduced Michael Lamarique, a network administrator and five-year Whitman resident, as a prospective voting member, filling a roster that had at times been reduced to two members, barely enough for a legal meeting. Recreation Director reported that online registration through Unipay is now live for the summer park program at $160 per child per week and the summer pool program, with most staff returning. The commission is seeking $10,000 from the town in the FY27 budget for pool operations, covering chemicals, opening, closing, and seasonal maintenance, and acknowledged that without it, free pool access on the Fourth of July cannot be guaranteed. A spring egg hunt is set for March 28 at Town Hall, with an $850 inflatable maze, 3,000 reused plastic eggs, the Easter Bunny, and National Honor Society volunteers, following Select Board approval of the venue. The commission's next meeting is March 12 at 6 p.m.
