Whitman Select Board corrects override ballot question, locks in $500,000 figure

WHITMAN — April 10, 2026 — Whitman Select Board re-votes Proposition 2 1/2 override question to add required $500,000 figure. Meeting on April 10 lasted only minutes, convened solely to correct an omission from a prior, self-described "chaotic" session in which the legally required dollar amount was left out of the override ballot question. The board voted 4-0 on a roll call — members Justin Evans, Sean, Dan, and Chair Carl all voting yes — to approve language asking residents whether the town may levy an additional $500,000 in real estate and personal property taxes to fund the fiscal year 2027 operating budget and regional school district assessments starting July 1, 2026. Evans publicly apologized to town clerk and to resident Bob Kimball, who had flagged the missing figure at the earlier meeting. The corrected question is set for the May 16, 2026 annual town meeting ballot.
