Woburn School Committee Tables $205,000 Budget Cut Vote Until June 24

ABINGTON — June 9, 2026 — Woburn School Committee tables $205,000 budget adjustment, citing reluctance to cut long-sought facilities post. The City Council passed the school budget Monday night, June 8, at $205,000 below the committee's approved level, forcing a review of four adjustment scenarios presented by Business Manager Alex Dizio that included eliminating a proposed assistant director of facilities position budgeted at $130,000. Chair Chisholm warned that Facilities Director Lenny Burnham "is a person that's never going to tell you that he can't do the job," and Vice Chair Crowley, noting major upcoming projects including the Shamrock roof and a new-school feasibility study, said flatly, "The district needs an assistant director of facilities." The committee voted unanimously to table the decision to its June 24 meeting, with July 1 as the fiscal year 2027 start date. The committee also heard student presentations on a new grant-funded garden at Linscott-Rumford Elementary and a first-place statewide competition video produced by the Woburn Memorial High School Sustainable Development Club, and adopted eight policies including an updated School Improvement Plan with a July 1 submission deadline.
