Abington Select Board accepts framed Declaration replica for America's 250th

ABINGTON — July 1, 2026 — Abington Select Board accepts Declaration of Independence replica at special July 4th-week meeting. State Representative Allison Sullivan Almeida appeared before the board Tuesday morning to present a framed replica of the Declaration of Independence, distributed to Massachusetts legislators at the State House the prior week to mark the nation's 250th anniversary. Senator John Keenan's name appeared on the back-of-frame inscription as co-presenter, though he was unable to attend. A board member, identifying himself as a member of the Sons of the American Revolution through his ancestor Isaiah Keene — a fifer at the 1776 fortification of Dorchester Heights — noted that approximately 29 Revolutionary War patriots are buried at Abington's Mount Vernon Cemetery. The board voted unanimously to adjourn after a group photograph with the replica; no display location was formally designated.
