Brockton School Committee Awards Six FY27 Facility Service Contracts Unanimously

BROCKTON — June 30, 2026 — Brockton School Committee unanimously awards six facility service contracts for FY27. The committee voted 5-0 on each of six bids at its June 30 meeting, awarding contracts for food service equipment repair, fire protection, glass repair, waste disposal, generator maintenance, and drain and grease trap service. The largest award went to Waste Innovations for waste disposal services at $302,118.72 in year one, $317,224.66 in year two, and $333,085.98 in year three, totaling roughly $952,000 over three years — a figure that prompted member Shayna Oliver to question whether the district was generating enough waste to justify the cost, though staff confirmed it was the lowest of seven or eight bids received. The meeting also introduced John Foley, the district's new procurement manager, who said approximately 18 to 19 additional contracts remain in development. Member Sandra Santoyo pressed Foley on local and minority-owned vendor participation, and Foley acknowledged that while state law requires award to the lowest responsible bidder, several local vendors were solicited and did not come in lowest. The committee then moved into executive session on collective bargaining strategy and open meeting law minute review, adjourning without returning to open session.
