Finance Panel Reviews Housing, Land Deals, Delays Votes
Finance Committee · Meeting of September 21, 2026
Wareham Finance Committee previews $1.1 million in fall warrant requests, votes on nothing. Community Preservation Treasurer Sandy Slavin and Affordable Housing Trust Chair Sergio Muniz asked for $75,000 to update the town's housing production plan before its 40B "safe harbor" expires in August 2027, plus $1 million toward a $4.1 million Buzzards Bay Coalition purchase of 350-plus acres of Makepeace bog land. A school representative said the district will receive $80,827 in McKinney-Vento homeless-transportation reimbursement against a $187,000 claim, with $1,280,898 spent year-to-date transporting about 41 students.
Harbormaster Gary requested $105,635 for waterways operations, including $46,535 for new patrol trucks, drawing a request from members for a written breakdown. The committee approved its July 15 minutes 6-0 and adjourned without recommending any warrant article.
