HALIFAX — June 16, 2026 — Halifax Council on Aging votes to hold July meeting amid concerns over town budget changes. The board, chaired by Jean Gallant, voted unanimously at its June 16 session to convene in July after members agreed that town budget decisions expected around July 1 were too consequential to let pass without a meeting; a second unanimous vote moved the board's regular start time from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The COA director reported that the gifts-and-activity revolving account holds approximately $12,000, that a recent unannounced health inspection yielded a good rating, and that a National Grid and Eversource energy-assistance event helped one Halifax family access roughly $4,000 in abatements. A board member pressed for closer collaboration with Generations, the COA's nonprofit fundraising partner, arguing that large corporations will donate to a nonprofit intermediary but not directly to a town account, and warning that "if we don't get together, they're going to put us all out of business."
