Hanson Planning Board endorses lot split, forwards non-conforming lot dispute to ZBA
HANSON — June 22, 2026 — Hanson Planning Board unanimously endorses West Washington Street lot split and forwards non-conforming lot dispute to the Zoning Board of Appeals. The board, meeting June 22 with four of five members present, voted 4-0 to endorse an Approval Not Required plan filed by A&S Construction to divide 501 West Washington Street into a conforming lot for an existing home and an estate lot, after surveyor Gary Rice of Land Planning Incorporated confirmed the parcel had been successfully removed from registered land court status. The board also voted 4-0 to send a contested building permit application for 0 Union Park Street to the ZBA, which holds its hearing June 30; town counsel has concluded the applicant's assembled lots total only 4,800 square feet — 200 square feet short of the 5,000-square-foot single-lot protection threshold — while the applicant's own attorney disputes that reading. Town Planner Tom reported the planning department has submitted four FY27 One-Stop grant applications totaling $471,680, secured a $150,000 Shared Streets and Spaces grant from MassDOT for the long-stalled Maquan Street road project, and is drafting a data center bylaw for October Town Meeting after noting the use is currently unregulated and therefore permitted by default under Massachusetts law.
