Hanson Select Board places 35 town meeting warrant articles, tables Cranberry Cove fee hike

HANSON — March 10, 2026 — Hanson Select Board honors 27-year ZBA staffer and places more than 30 town meeting warrant articles. The board unanimously accepted the resignation of Virginia Cosley, administrative assistant to the Zoning Board of Appeals since 1999, and received a state citation from Representative Kent Sweezy praising her "lasting impact" on the town. The board appointed Joseph Marcos as highway maintenance mechanic effective March 16 and Chris Callahan as heavy equipment operator effective March 23, both internal candidates backed by Highway Director Richard Jasmine. A rate increase for Cranberry Cove beach was tabled after a board member noted that under the proposed schedule, a senior pass at $65 would cost more than a standard resident pass at $60. The board worked through more than 30 annual and special town meeting warrant articles for the May vote, placing — but not yet recommending — a $25,239,106 library building article and a $705,000 fire engine borrowing, while voting to place and recommend a 50-percent veterans tax exemption increase and a highway department building debt exclusion designed to be net-neutral as roughly $400,000 in existing police-station and high-school debt rolls off the books.
