Hanson Select Board votes to pursue veteran services district with Hanover

HANSON — January 27, 2026 — Hanson Select Board authorizes veteran services district talks with Hanover, ratifies officer termination. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to direct Town Administrator Lisa Green to negotiate a shared veteran services officer district with the Town of Hanover, following the dismissal of a second consecutive veteran services officer, ratified in open session with an effective date of January 20. Under the proposed arrangement, Hanover would retain Terrence O'Keefe as its employee and invoice Hanson for a percentage of his salary, with Green saying the structure could deliver two workers — O'Keefe plus a newly retitled 19.5-hour veterans benefit administrator — within the budget currently allocated to a single full-time officer. The board separately flagged a capital warrant article seeking roughly $397,000 for regional high school paving as a concern, with the chair warning that dollar amounts for all outstanding articles must be submitted no later than the February 10 meeting.
