Hingham School Committee unanimously names high school track for Fred Jewett
HINGHAM — May 18, 2026 — Hingham School Committee unanimously names high school track the Fred Jewett Track at Michelson Field. The vote, taken at the May 18 Town Hall meeting chaired by John Benham, concluded a two-week public comment period that drew broad community support; member Allie Anderson reported receiving multiple messages in favor. The committee also heard from Assistant Superintendent Erica Pollard that the district's English learner program passed 17 of 18 DESE Tiered Focus Monitoring indicators, with a corrective action plan submitted the same day for the single record-keeping deficiency; DESE will check back in on July 23. In a separate action, the committee approved non-union rate increases for driver's education instructors, summer student interns, food service substitutes, Kids in Action program workers, and van monitors, most effective July 1, 2026. Superintendent Katie told the committee that the high school and elementary school buildings are expected to serve the district for at least 30 more years, framing the statement as guidance for the School Building Committee's ongoing MSBA roof and HVAC material decisions.
