Marshfield Board of Public Works approves two recycling contracts and hears full account of February blizzard response. The board unanimously approved a one-year mattress recycling extension with Top Stuff Recycling of Fitchburg for an estimated $62,700 and a refrigerant recovery contract with Interstate Refrigerant Recovery of Foxborough for $15,000. DPW Superintendent Ken reported that the February blizzard — with wind gusts recorded at 90 miles per hour, snowfall at two to three inches per hour, and 84 percent of the town losing power — ran the snow budget to roughly $1 million against a $400,000 appropriation, leaving a $600,000 deficit.

Private plow contractor Steve Crowley of Leland Road told the board he had never seen snow fall that fast in 40 years of plowing. The town is pursuing federal disaster reimbursement, with the state required to submit to FEMA before any declaration can be made. The board also directed staff to finalize a roughly $20,000 audit contract with a CPA firm to review DPW enterprise funds.
