Marshfield Conservation Commission Continues Dock Variance Debate, Issues Four Permits

MARSHFIELD — June 17, 2026 — Marshfield Conservation Commission continued a contested dock variance application and issued a series of permits at its June 17 meeting. The commission voted unanimously to push the 12 Careswell Street notice of intent — which seeks two variances from the town's dock bylaw, including a pier-length formula variance and a 25-foot property-line setback — to its July 1 meeting, citing unresolved questions from Harbormaster Mike DiMaio about dredging depth calculations and intertidal habitat mitigation for the proposed 90-cubic-yard improvement dredge. Commissioner Craig Malafronte said the length variance "is a heavy lift" given the bylaw's clarity and the potential for 15 or more similar applications along Marginal Street. The commission also unanimously approved a determination of applicability for a DPW pipe-scribing project on Tecumseh Avenue, using a DEP-reviewed technology that encapsulates asbestos-cement sewer pipe in epoxy without excavation, and issued certificates of compliance for White Oak Farm on Ferry Street, a pier at 938 Summer Street, and 167 Planting Field Road, while tabling the COC for 308 Ocean Street pending two years of required planting monitoring reports.
