Marshfield Planning Board unanimously rejects LIP housing project proposed off Forge Lane. The board voted 5-0 Monday to send a negative recommendation to the Select Board on a proposed Local Initiative Program subdivision, with Chairman Michael Biviano Jr. saying the project failed all three of the town's required criteria for a favorable LIP endorsement — affordable units in excess of 25 percent, innovative site design, and building density that does not maximize the site. Town Planner Karen Horn confirmed the applicant had proposed exactly 25 percent affordable units and a $380,000 contribution to the town's housing trust, neither of which swayed the board.

Vice Chairman Katharine O'Donnell cited "health and safety concerns" echoed in written abutter comments, while Member Nik Pappastratis argued that units were "front-loaded towards the abutters." Horn will draft the formal written recommendation for the board's July 20 meeting; it must reach the Select Board by July 30.
