Marshfield Select Board approves two of three Verizon cell sites

Select Board · Meeting of February 9, 2026

Marshfield Select Board splits 2-1 on a contested Verizon cell pole and raises its town administrator salary cap. The board approved small-cell wireless installations at 175 and 1190 Ocean Street but tabled a third site at 5 Water Street after resident Deborah Leary said "your equipment will block my view of the water" and warned the pole draws frequent lightning strikes; Verizon must supply complaint records before the Feb. 23 meeting. Members also voted 2-1 to set a $225,000 maximum salary for the next town administrator, with Steve Darcy arguing "if you pick the wrong candidate, it's going to cost you more than $10,000." The board separately approved a $20,000 opioid-fund match for a Drug Story Theater prevention curriculum in Marshfield's elementary schools.
