Panel votes to restore some employee hours, fund library
Other Committee 2026-09-29 Part 2 · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Bridgewater Budget and Finance Committee forwards pay restoration, library rescue to council. Town Manager Justin told the panel an unbudgeted state prison mitigation grant of roughly $240,000, plus stabilization funds, will let most employees move from 35 to 38 hours, not the original 40, calling it a "long-term operational change." The committee also voted to send a $96,000 stabilization-fund transfer to raise the library budget to $774,127 and avoid a state funding waiver, but one member voted no, warning "funding our library should never be a stabilization or a one-time thing." Other items included a $49,896 fire department contractual buyout, a $60,000 legal budget boost for public records costs, and new rules capping the senior tax work-off program at 20 hours a week with a same-department work ban.
