Abington schools approve DC trip, new safety policy
School Committee · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Abington School Committee approves DC eighth grade trip, new teen dating violence policy, finance title change. Every vote Tuesday passed unanimously, including the roughly 169-student trip to Washington, D.C., set for June 10-12, 2027 at about $969 per student, after members flagged a typo that initially listed 2026. Sarah Ganey's title moves from director to "executive director of finance and operations," with no change in pay or duties.
The committee adopted Policy JICFC, the state-mandated Teen Dating Violence Policy, which a presenter called "a belt and suspenders" approach layered onto existing harassment and discipline policies. Caroline Ellis was named the district's delegate to November's MASC/MASS joint conference. Members also approved the FY28 budget development schedule ahead of the May 3, 2027 Town Meeting, and declared obsolete furniture, books and equipment surplus for disposal, with staff confirming all data is erased from discarded laptops before disposal.
