Plympton ZBA Closes 40B Hearing, Sets June 25 Vote on 60-Unit Development

PLYMPTON — May 28, 2026 — Plympton's Zoning Board of Appeals closed the public hearing on SLT Construction Corp.'s Chapter 40B application for a 60-unit duplex development and set a June 25 noon meeting to review a draft decision and take a final vote. The board, which has been deliberating for more than 12 months, resolved a last-minute fire department dispute by unanimously adopting a package that requires a four-inch standpipe system with dry hydrants within 50 feet of each affected unit, driveway widening to 20 feet on lots 9 through 12, a hammerhead turnaround on the common driveway serving lots 18 and 19, and at least 20 feet of separation between duplex buildings on multi-unit lots — rejecting a fire department recommendation for residential sprinkler systems that the applicant estimated at $8,000 to $10,000 per unit for 22 affected units. The board also voted unanimously to condition the permit on resolution of a MassDOT drainage easement question involving a stormwater overflow basin that straddles the site's property line, after MassDOT's Highway Maintenance Engineer Michelle Muller requested additional time to investigate design records in a letter read into the record.
