SCITUATE -- Youth basketball families in town got their first look at the timeline for the coming winter season this week.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- The Scituate Basketball Association says registration for the 2026-27 winter travel season will open in September. Tryouts are scheduled for the week of October 20, and the SBA says every child trying out must attend both tryout dates for their grade, bring a basketball and water, and that there will be no makeup tryout dates. Practices are expected to begin in November, with games starting the first weekend of December. The SBA fields teams that play in the South Shore Girls Basketball League (grades 5-8), the South Shore Youth Boys Basketball League (A, B and C teams, grades 3-8), and Old Colony Girls Basketball (3rd and 4th grade, plus B teams for grades 5-8). The association also noted it is looking for coaches for the winter season.
