Brockton City Council Begins Three Nights of Hearings on $629 Million FY2027 Budget

BROCKTON — June 8, 2026 — Brockton City Council opens three-night hearings on a $629 million FY2027 budget that relies on $15 million in one-time transfers to balance. CFO Troy Clarkson told councillors the proposal includes $9 million drawn from the Chapter 324 reserve, $4 million in anticipated proceeds from selling the former police station, and a $2 million transfer from the pension stabilization fund, after departmental requests were trimmed by $19.2 million. Clarkson also disclosed that school committee members have been receiving annual salaries of $25,000 — $5,000 above the $20,000 the council authorized in 2023 — with retroactive pay also issued, and said the elevated payments were still being made as of Monday evening.
