Brockton Zoning Board Grants Norwich Road Storage Addition Variance 5-0

BROCKTON — June 9, 2026 — Brockton Zoning Board unanimously approves rear-yard setback variance for an unpermitted addition, adjourning in 16 minutes. The board voted 5-0 on June 9 to grant a dimensional variance allowing Kathleen Stady of 44 Norwich Road to complete a roughly 16-by-14-foot wood-frame storage addition to her Campanelli-style home, a structure that a contractor had built nearly to completion without pulling a building permit before the city issued a cease-and-desist order. Attorney Jim Burke, representing Stady, told the board the addition sits 10 feet from the rear property line and creates no side-setback issue; the rear abutter at 39 Vale Street submitted a letter stating he had no objection. Chair Kenneth Gallagher directed the board to treat the matter as a straight variance rather than a less-than-50-percent-expansion determination, adding a condition that no further construction may occur until the Inspectional Division approves the existing structure. A second case, involving 10 Battle Street, was withdrawn before the hearing began and will require re-advertisement if it returns.
