Finance Committee · Meeting of August 20, 2026

West Bridgewater's Finance Committee approved a $443,246 year-end transfer to cover three budget shortfalls. Town Administrator David Gagne told the panel the money, drawn from the town's employee benefits budget, covered overages in the rent control board, snow and ice removal and street lighting, and said the move "does not affect any of you as taxpayers." Gagne attributed the rent control board's overage to two petitions this year, the first in years, requiring paid legal and secretarial support. Street lighting ran over its $95,000 budget partly because LED fixtures activate based on ambient light rather than a fixed schedule.

The committee voted unanimously, with member Christopher Smith seconding, though the stated line-item breakdown did not sum to the total transfer figure, prompting one unresolved question on the record: "does it not add up?"
