Hingham Select Board Approves Cafe Tosca Entertainment License and $150,000 HVAC Deal

HINGHAM — June 2, 2026 — Hingham Select Board approves Cafe Tosca entertainment license and $150,000 HVAC contract, while Shipyard Drive residents push for Route 220 rollback. The board voted 3-0 on both business items at its June 2 meeting, chaired by Elizabeth Klein with Julie Straley and William Ramsey participating remotely. The entertainment license for Eat Well, Inc. d/b/a Caffe Tosca at 15 North Street allows acoustic ensembles of no more than three pieces on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. The HVAC agreement with Preferred Mechanical Services, Inc. — which has serviced Town Hall since 1998 — covers a 24-month base term with a one-year option, with the $150,000 ceiling inclusive of all three years. The meeting's longest discussion centered on MBTA Bus Route 220, which has run through Shipyard Drive to the ferry terminal since August 2025; residents Lynn Green and Kathy Maloof told the board the 60-daily-trip route generates noise and emissions, runs as late as 1:39 a.m. well past the last ferry, and imposes road-maintenance costs on private condo associations. Town Administrator Art Robert also announced a $1 million MassDOT Complete Streets construction grant for the proposed Hingham Center rotary, crediting Town Engineer J.R. Frye with the successful application.
