Hingham Water Board Approves $1.31 Million Design Contract for Tank and Pump Station

HINGHAM — January 13, 2026 — Hingham Water Commissioners approve $1.31 million contract and set public hearing on rate increase. The Board of Water Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to approve an agreement with Apex Companies LLC, through its subsidiary Environmental Partners Group LLC, for final design, bidding, and construction services for the Strawberry Hill water storage tank and a new Kilby Street booster pump station — two projects bundled into a single contract not to exceed $1,310,000, with a completion deadline of December 31, 2027. The board also unanimously recommended placing a roughly $2 million PFAS litigation settlement fund on the town warrant, earmarked strictly for PFAS studies and treatment. Water and Sewer Superintendent Russell Tierney said construction at Strawberry Hill is targeted to begin in June 2026, pending final design and permitting through March. The board scheduled a January 28 public hearing on a proposed 3 percent water usage rate increase and a new $65 annual surcharge tied to the infrastructure work, with Cohasset and Hull Select Boards to be invited as the Weir River Water System serves all three communities.
