KINGSTON — The Kingston Sewer Commission heard that a recent storm knocked out electrical systems at four pump stations and approved routine billing adjustments. Superintendent Dave told commissioners Marion Drive, New Summer Street, Bradford Street and the Jones River pump station all suffered storm-related electrical failures, with a Jones River variable-frequency drive destroyed by a power surge. He said the department spends close to $400,000 a year on electricity and estimated rental pumps can run "$2,000 a day, a week rather" during parts shortages, prompting commissioners to ask for a spare-parts cost list.

Staff also reported the plant's discharge-permit renewal estimate fell from $100,000 to about $39,000 after prior upgrades reduced state documentation demands, and that septage revenue stands at about $183,000 with sewer user fees at about $228,000. Commissioners approved a new three-year sludge-hauling contract with Wastewater Services Inc. at $500 a ton.
