Marshfield DPW Awards Six Contracts Totaling Over $145,000 at July 6 Meeting

Marshfield's Board of Public Works awarded six service contracts and received a stark budget briefing at its July 6 meeting at 965 Plain Street. The board unanimously approved a $40,000 welding services contract with Bond Welding of Marshfield at $150 per hour; a no-cost time extension for Weston and Samson of Reading on well cleaning through June 29, 2027; a new one-year landfill environmental monitoring contract with Weston and Samson at $60,900, which includes a $4,600 PFAS testing component in anticipation of new state requirements; and two SCADA maintenance contracts with Woodard and Curran of Portland, Maine — $25,000 for wastewater and $20,000 for water. A backup welding contract was tabled pending additional local quotes.

The superintendent reported that out of 23 capital requests submitted to annual town meeting — covering dump trucks, a front-end loader, a sweeper, and multiple water and wastewater projects — only two water projects were approved, with the department facing required cuts of $507,961 under the baseline FY27 budget, primarily achieved by defunding seven open positions. A state supplemental winter relief distribution of approximately $400,000 to Marshfield, signed by the governor on June 12, 2026, partially offsets the million-dollar snow and ice deficit transfer approved at the special town meeting.
