Middleborough School Committee Approves Three Labor MOAs, Authorizes Interim Superintendent Talks

MIDDLEBOROUGH — June 11, 2026 — Middleborough School Committee unanimously approves three labor MOAs and authorizes contract talks with interim superintendent pick David Thompson. Acting Superintendent Mike Laverriere presented the final fiscal year 2027 budget at the June 11 meeting at Nichols Middle School, reporting a town allocation of $42,850,000 — a 2.5 percent increase — against a general fund request of $44,836,262, leaving a shortfall of $1,986,262. Position reductions settled at 18.5, down from an initial target of 29.5 in March; six employees faced formal reduction in force, and two separations remained unresolved at meeting's end. The committee voted 6-0 to authorize chair Sue and members Sean Moeckler and Leah Machado to negotiate Thompson's draft contract, with significant changes to return to the full body. Three MOAs — covering the ESP contract, health insurance for teachers, ESP and cafeteria workers, and teacher longevity — all passed unanimously following executive session.
