Norwell Warns of EEE, West Nile Virus Confirmed Statewide
Massachusetts health officials have confirmed Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile virus in mosquito samples statewide, and the Town of Norwell issued a public alert Friday, Aug. 21, urging residents to take precautions.
TOWN HALL
The town's News Flash service posted the advisory Friday confirming the mosquito-borne viruses have turned up in samples collected across Massachusetts this summer. The notice urges Norwell residents to use insect repellent, wear long sleeves during dusk and dawn hours, and eliminate standing water around their properties. As of Friday, town officials had not announced additional local measures, such as spraying or evening curfews at parks and fields, beyond the statewide advisory.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
Norwell Public Library is rolling out a new device lending program, offering four Dell Pro 14 laptops for in-library use and seven Dell Latitude touch-screen laptops available for home checkout, library officials announced. Residents can call the library or visit the Main Desk to reserve one.
The library also confirmed it was awarded a state technology grant worth more than $35,000, funding officials say will help expand digital services for patrons. That windfall comes alongside a harder budget note: citing funding cuts, the library said it will no longer offer seasonal Sunday hours, a reduction detailed in its FY26 budget breakdown posted online this month.
