Scituate School Committee Approves Needs Assessment Contract to Guide Superintendent Search

SCITUATE — February 2, 2026 — Scituate School Committee unanimously approved a district needs assessment contract, a new dramatic arts curriculum, and an interim principal contract at its February 2 meeting. The committee authorized Superintendent Tom Lynch to sign a contract with the First Beacon Group, with consultant Patty Sinicoli leading the assessment at $300 per hour, to gather community input and produce a superintendent candidate profile and job description review. Three new Scituate High School dramatic arts courses — Foundations of Theater, Acting 1, and Set Design and Production — were added to the program of studies. The committee also approved an interim principal contract for Kate Shula at Cushing Elementary School, running from December 24, 2025, through the building's planned closing on June 30, 2027. The committee accepted a donated trailer valued at $3,000 from Andrew Scanzillo and the Scanzillo Corporation for the robotics team, and $1,400 in memorial donations for the wrestling program honoring the late Kevin Curtis. A proposed kindergarten entrance waiver for children born September 9 through 15 was not voted on and was returned to the policy subcommittee ahead of an April 3 family deadline.
