Scituate Select Board Awards $829,000 in Seawall and Water Main Change Orders

SCITUATE — January 20, 2026 — Scituate Select Board unanimously approved nearly $830,000 in seawall and water main change orders and ordered demolition of the Cole Parkway gazebo at its January 20 meeting. Chair Andrew Goodrich and his four colleagues voted 5-0 on every item of the night, including a $379,066 change order to Celco Construction Corp. for the first phase of replacing a 1942-era Humarock water main and a change order not to exceed $450,000 to ACK Marine and General Contracting after engineers discovered some Oceanside Drive seawall helical piles had to reach 60 feet rather than the anticipated 25 feet. The board also voted to pull the North Scituate sewer expansion from the April 13 Special Town Meeting, pushing it to a fall Special Town Meeting so actual bid prices can inform the vote — Finance Director Nancy Holt noted prior betterment estimates for similar projects dropped from more than $40,000 to roughly $17,000 per household once bids came in. A pilot program will sell up to 150 transfer station stickers to Norwell residents at $300 each for calendar year 2026. Facilities Director Cameron MacDonald warned that two engineering reports had found the Cole Parkway gazebo "needs to come down," with full demolition estimated at $8,000 to $10,000; board member Freya Schlegel required written notification to the Morrill family, to whom the structure is dedicated, before any work begins.
