Water Board Scraps Cheapest Route for New Well Road
Water · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Kingston water board scraps cheapest well-access route over a conservation-land snag. The Board of Water Commissioners learned that a past town meeting vote placed all of Kingston's conservation land under Article 97, which "means nothing can be done with it at all" according to the board's project engineer, Kristen, forcing a pivot to a costlier access road for the town's planned new well. The board unanimously approved buying a replacement pump motor, estimated at $5,000 to $6,000, and adopted updated Smiths Lane tank maintenance pricing starting at $136,732.50 a year.
Staff reported the system's low-pressure zone is pumping roughly 80 million more gallons a year than in 2021, pointing to an undetected leak. Human resources official Tina recommended keeping the superintendent search open despite five applicants already in hand, telling the board, "my recommendation is to keep it open while we continue to accept applications, but still move forward with those that have already applied."
