Whitman Assessors approve nearly $3,800 in excise abatements across four tax years

WHITMAN — April 21, 2026 — Whitman Board of Assessors approves $3,762 in excise abatements and adjourns to closed session. At its April 21 meeting, the board unanimously approved five abatement actions covering motor vehicle excise taxes for tax years 2024, 2025, and 2026, plus a $15 boat excise abatement on a vessel reported sold. The largest single item was $3,433.41 in 2026 motor vehicle excise abatements; a $92.70 abatement for tax year 2024 was granted under the HERO Act, which provides relief for qualifying military service members. Meeting minutes from March 31 and April 7 were also approved, with clerk Christine McPherson signing both. The board then voted by roll call to enter executive session on exemptions, chapter land, and property abatements, with no public reconvening afterward.
