Whitman Select Board Picks Matthew Dyer as Next Assistant Town Administrator

WHITMAN — April 23, 2026 — Whitman Select Board votes 3-2 to hire Matthew Dyer as its next Assistant Town Administrator. Dyer, 35, a senior transportation planner at Old Colony Planning Council and former two-term Hanson selectman, was chosen from a field of more than 45 applicants after the board conducted public interviews with three finalists: Dyer, Pembroke municipal administrator Sabrina Chilcott, and current Whitman Health Agent Daniel Kelly. Chair Carl Kowalski, who dissented, argued that Chilcott "could be the assistant town administrator yesterday" and had the experience to step in immediately if Town Administrator Mary Beth Carter were unavailable, while members Justin Evans and Sean King favored Dyer's personal ties to Whitman, his ambition to eventually become town administrator, and his multi-level government background. The position, which covers personnel, collective bargaining, procurement, grant management, planning, and budget functions for a town with no dedicated finance director, HR director, or planner, is set to begin July 1 with contract negotiations scheduled for the board's May 19 meeting.
