ABINGTON — May 26, 2026 — Abington Conservation Commission ratifies enforcement orders against two properties and approves Summer Street sidewalk improvements. At the May 26 meeting, Chair Lynn Mullen and commissioners Jean Matiosas, Alvin Schneider, and Chris O'Neill ratified enforcement orders for 308 Brockton Avenue and 208 Center Ave., both involving unpermitted paving within pond buffer zones, and voted 3 to 1 to amend the Center Ave. order to include notification of paving contractor Phoenix Paving as a potential co-responsible party. The commission unanimously amended a March 2026 enforcement order for 22 Helm Street, requiring a licensed wetland scientist to conduct a full delineation — covering hydrology, soil, and vegetation — by July 31, 2026, after Conservation Agent Nick Jenks presented photographs showing fill pushed up against open water; a neighboring abutter cited Planning Board records documenting that the property owner had brought in up to 640 cubic yards of fill. The commission also unanimously approved the notice of intent for the DPW's Summer Street sidewalk project, ordering special conditions including an invasive species removal and trucking plan, no-salt zone signage, and upgraded silt fencing. A site walk at the 171 Groveland Street municipal landfill was scheduled ahead of a continued hearing on DEP-required test pits.
