Bridgewater charter panel reviews survey, sets fall schedule
Other Committee · Meeting of September 30, 2026
Bridgewater's Charter Review Committee reviewed early survey data showing deep resident dissatisfaction with town communication and voted 7-0 to lock in a fall-to-winter meeting schedule. Committee member James presented preliminary results from 163 citizen survey responses, calculating a margin of error of roughly 7 to 8 percent, and reported that well over 60 percent of respondents rated themselves among the least satisfied with how the town communicates major decisions. About three-quarters of respondents said Bridgewater's current form of government is not effectively serving residents.
"It's reasonable to think that the actual number... could be anywhere from 42% to 57% of residents," James said of the margin of error. Members Brad and Eric are still conducting separate interviews with town councilors and committee chairs for a companion stakeholder survey. The committee adopted an October-through-February schedule, taking up charter articles one by one, with a presentation to the Town Council planned for April 2026.
