Disability Commission Presses Chiefs on Storm Safety

Other Committee · Meeting of September 29, 2026

Bridgewater Disability Commission presses police and fire chiefs on storm and heat readiness for seniors. Police Chief Chris Del Monte and Fire Chief John Schlatz told the commission an estimated 400 to 700 Bridgewater seniors may be homebound, with nearly 40 percent of residents 75 and older living with a disability. Schlatz outlined storm staffing, MEMA coordination and shelter sites at the Williams School and high school, with the senior center as a cooling and warming center; Del Monte called neighbor-to-neighbor checks the departments' "biggest force multiplier." Resident Evie DeLudis pressed on the center's 3 p.m. cooling-center cutoff and asked about using reverse-911 for notifications, telling officials "I'm not leaving without my cat." Lieutenant Scott Heil said the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department-run system can add cell numbers beyond registered landlines.

The commission also approved its August minutes unanimously and heard about a Plymouth County Registry of Deeds fraud-alert program.
